Online Poker Guide: What Beats a Full House in Poker?

What beats a Full House in poker? If you’re asking this question, your buddies must be giving you a hard time at the poker table. You need to know how poker hands are ranked if you want to play online poker games like a pro, or on second thought, even if you want to play poker at all.

So, yet again, that’s where we come in with a handy online poker guide to teach you how the different poker hand rankings work and how to determine the winning hand in poker. Does a Full House beat a Flush? Does Three of a Kind beat a Full House? It’s all here, so keep on reading to find out what beats what in poker.

How poker hands are ranked

Whether you want to play online poker games for real money, or looking to shape up for the weekly poker game with your friends, you need to learn how poker hands are ranked in order to understand the game. You can’t rely entirely on a wicked poker face and expect to win!

The first step to learning how to play poker is understanding how a poker hand ranks compared to another. You can’t just go around asking every player what beats a Full House in poker – that won’t get you very far at all.

Knowing how strong a hand you have is essential when performing the most basic poker moves, such as raising your bet or knowing when to fold, and of course, what beats a full house, in case you have one in your hand.

Poker hands tend to rank in the same order regardless of the types of online poker games you play, including Texas Hold’em, Caribbean Stud, or even most of our online video poker at Punt.

Punt Casino offers various types of online video poker that can be played using cryptocurrency.

Poker hands ranked and ready to roll!

Let’s start with the most common poker hands and work our way up to the good stuff to determine what beats Full House hands in poker. The lowest ranking hands in poker are the following:

One pair and a high card are the 2 lowest-ranking poker hands.

10. High Card

When no other poker hand is present, the highest card in each hand is used to determine the winning poker hands. The highest-ranking card in poker is an Ace, followed by the King, Queen, Jack, and 10, respectively. After that, it’s the numbers that tell the tale of who wins and who loses in poker.

9. One Pair

Any 2 of the same cards in your hand is considered a Pair. They don’t need to be the same suit, or even the same color. As long as the card values correspond, a Pair is what you have. But if you want to know what beats a full house in poker, keep reading, because it’s definitely NOT a Pair.

Three of a Kind in poker means you have 3 of the same value cards, and a two-pair means you have 2 pairs of the same cards.

8. Two Pair

Figured this one out yet? It’s simple enough to understand. A Two-Pair means you have 2 separate Pairs in your hand, as seen with the 2 nines and 2 fives in the image above.

7. Three of a Kind

Any 3 matching cards with the same values in your hand is considered Three of a Kind. Does Three of a Kind beat a Full House? Nope, unless you’re playing 3-Card Poker where a Full House simply does not exist.

A Flush in poker is 5 cards of the same suit and a Straight is 5 cards in sequential order.

6. Straight

A Straight is made up of 5 cards of any suit that run in a sequential order. In 3-Card Poker, you’ll only need 3 cards in the sequence, not 5. It’s also important to remember that an Ace can be the first or the last card in the sequence.

5. Flush

Any 5 cards of the same suit means you have a Flush. This is one of the easiest poker hands to identify, as all cards are the same color and the suit is easy to spot. Does a Flush beat a Full House? That’s still a “no”, but we’re getting close!

Four of a Kind in poker is four cards with the same value and card ranking, and a Full House is a Pair with a Three of a Kind.

4. Full House

Aha – the hand in question! Finally we get to the good stuff. A Full House is a poker hand consisting of a Three of a Kind AND a Pair, making 5 cards in total. It’s one of the most sought-after poker hands and not as uncommon as you may think. But now it’s time to answer the question: what beats a Full House in poker? All the poker hands that follow.

3. Four of a Kind

Similar to a Three of a Kind, a Four of a Kind is a poker hand including 4 cards with matching values and hand rankings, for example, the 4 Queens in the image above. You basically need all the same cards for every suit to lay down a Four of a Kind.

A Straight Flush and Royal Flush are the 2 highest ranking poker hands you can find when playing online poker.

2. Straight Flush

Now we’re getting to those once-in-a-lifetime poker hands that many poker players have never had the pleasure of slamming down onto the table and raking in the pot. A Straight Flush means you have 5 cards in sequential order, like a Straight, but they are all the same suit.

1. Royal Flush – THE BIG ONE!

The highest ranking poker hand of them all – the Royal Flush! It’s basically a Straight Flush, but instead of having any 5 cards in the sequence, you have the royals (A, K, Q, J, and 10.)

There are experienced poker players out there that have never even seen this hand while playing. So, if you get one of these while playing at Punt, you better take a screenshot for the bragging rights.
