The main racetrack bets are “Voisins du Zero (Neighbors to Zero)”, Orphelins (Orphans)”, and “Tiers du Cylindre (Series Five-Eight)”. Apart from these 3 main call bets, you also get “neighboring bets”. These are racetrack bets that cover a number chosen by the player, and 2 numbers located on either side of it on the wheel. 

This means a neighbor bet covers 5 numbers in total. It allows you to narrow down the areas of the wheel which could see you lose, giving you a bigger pocket for the ball to land without open numbers in between.

Types of Roulette racetrack bets

Neighboring Bets

As we mentioned, neighboring bets cover 2 numbers on either side of the number you choose on the wheel – that’s 5 numbers in total. In the example below, the player has chosen “5 and the neighbors” by clicking on the number 5 on the racetrack. A Straight Up bet is then placed on 5 and each of the two numbers on either side of it on the wheel.

You can already see that using roulette racetrack bets is definitely going to speed up your game, and more spins mean more wins. Neighboring bets are the easiest to understand, and you can place them by simply clicking on your chosen number on the racetrack. You can place these bets on as many numbers as you like.

Voisins du Zero / Neighbors to Zero

Neighbors to Zero is slightly tricker. It covers 17 numbers all next to each other on the wheel, but instead of placing Straight Up bets on the layout, Splits, Streets, and Corner bets are used. It’s a 9-piece bet, which means 9 chips will be placed in strategic positions to cover all 17 numbers on the layout.

This is one of the best racetrack bets roulette has to offer and means you can play almost half the wheel with only 9 chips. This is certainly helpful when you’re low on credits, that’s for sure. Here is how the chips are placed on the layout when the bet is made:

Street Bets: Two chips on 0/2/3 Street (pays 11 to 1 for every chip).

Splits: A single chip on 4/7, 12/15, 18/21, 19/22, and 32/35 Splits (pays 17 to 1 for every chip).

Corners: Two Chips on 25/29 Corner (pays 8 to 1 for every chip). 

Orphelins / Orphans

No, they’re not called “Orphans” because of a lack of parents (these are numbers, hello?) Orphans are divided into 2 sections on either side of the wheel, as seen in the image below. These sections are separated from each other by the remaining roulette racetrack bets, with Neighbors to Zero on the one side, and Series Five-Eight on the other.

“Orphans” is a 5-piece bet consisting of one Straight Up chip on number 1, and a single chip on 6/9, 14/17, 17/20, and 31/34 Splits. This means you can cover 8 numbers with 5 chips, with number 1 paying out 35 chips, number 17 paying out 34 chips, and the rest of the numbers covered paying out 17 chips. And of course, the winning chips will remain on the layout.

Tiers du Cylindre / Series 5/8

Series Five-Eight is one of the easier racetrack bets roulette games offer. It consists of 6 Splits only, covering 12 numbers – no Straight Ups, Corners, or Streets involved. As you can see in the image below, it covers the wheel section on the opposite side of Zero, and all 12 numbers in the series are covered with 6 chips on the layout.

Series Five-Eight allows you to cover ⅓ of the wheel with 6 chips, and any of these numbers coming up as the winner will see you snatching a 17 to 1 payout. If you’re playing Series Five-Eight, a winning bet every 3 spins should keep your bankroll fairly even. But hopefully, you’ll land this a few consecutive spins in a row.
